Summary:

Demond joined the Navy on October 26, 1995. Chief walker immediately left for Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. to attend "boot camp," and then reported to Personnelman "A" school in Meridian, MS, where he graduated on May 17, 1996.

On July 3, 1996, Chief Walker reported to his first duty station, Carrier Airborne Early Warnings Squadron 115(VAW 115), Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan.VAW – 115 deployed onboard USS Independence (CV 62) operations at sea.

Following 4 years of sea duty, Chief Walker reported to Personnel Support Detachment (PSD) Yokosuka. In April 2003, he returned to NAF Atsugi to serve with Strike Fighter Squadron 192 (VFA 192), the “World Famous Golden Dragons,” and deployed to Persian Gulf onboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 62) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following these overseas tours, Chief Walker returned to his home state of Virginia in 2006 where he served at PSD Oceana for the next 3 years.

Desiring once again to serve at the "tip of the spear." Chief Walker reported onboard USS George WASHINGTON (CVN 73),Yokosuka, Japan in 2009.

Demond loved the Lord, and he gave his life to Christ at True Apostolic Church at a very young age. Demond was blessed with a gentle soul. Filled with charisma and charm, when he entered a room he would always light it up with his smile. You would rarely ever catch him unraveling under pressure because he was a very peaceful and calm spirit. Presentation was also very important to Demond. He took pride in himself and how he represented his family. He exemplified striving for greatness, personal success, and beating the odds. He had a love for nice things, traveling, photography, cooking, and also music and movies. Spending time with his daughter and son was also on the top of the list for his favorite things to do. He enjoyed watching them grow and making family traditions and memories. They were the joy of his world.

Life Achievements/ Recognitions:

Graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond, VA in June 1995.

While onboard, he earned his Associate Degree in Administration/Management from Excelsior College.

A model of professionalism, Chief Walker was selected to serve on the Admiral’s staff at Commander Naval Force Pacific (CNAP) and he reported onboard in November 2012. He inspired juniors and his peers alike through his support of CNAP’S fitness program, his active role in the CPO Mess, and his mentorship of numerous junior Sailors.

Chief Walker’s awards include the Naval and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 gold stars) and Good Conduct Medal (3 bronze stars), and various unit awards and citations.
