Summary:

SFC Joseph P. Ferlicka was a native of Helena, Montana. He enlisted in the United States Army in September 2002. He attended basic training and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO where he was awarded MOS 31B, Military Police.

His first assignment was with the 58th Military Police Company, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as a gunner and driver where he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 04-05.

After deployment to Afghanistan, Sergeant First Class Ferlicka was assigned to the 39th Military Police Detachment, Fort Shafter, Hawaii as a Special Reaction Team Leader. He was then assigned to the 252nd Military Police Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO as a member of the Installation Special Reaction Team and a Drill Sergeant.

Following Sergeant First Class Ferlicka's successful completion of his Drill Sergeant assignment, he PCS'd to Fort Drum, NY and was assigned to 1st BCT, 10th MTN. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10-11 with the 3-6 Field Artillery as a Platoon Sergeant. Following his deployment Sergeant First Class Ferlicka was assigned to the Military Police Platoon, 1st BCT, 1st BSTB as a Squad Leader, then the 23rd Military Police Company as a Platoon Sergeant.

Joseph then deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 13-14 as the CENTCOM Materiel Recovery Elements Customs NCOIC for the entire theater of operation. Upon his return from deployment, he was assigned as the Detachment Sergeant for HHD, 91st Military Police Battalion. He then PCS'd in the summer of 2016 back to Fort Leonard Wood as a Systems Development NCO for the Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate, Protection branch.

Joseph served 3 tours in Afghanistan.

Joseph was known to say, "Don't be a clown shoe", "Rub some dirt on it", and "Chicks dig scars".

He loved to smoke brisket and salmon. He paid attention to detail and was always busy doing something productive.

Joseph graduated from Capital High School in 2001 and then began his career in the U.S Army.

Numerous awards and accommodations including the Bronze Star medal (2).

Joseph loved the outdoors, was an avid hunter, and fisherman, camping with family.

He cherished spending time with his wife and children, coaching football, soccer, hiking, and boating.

SFC Ferlicka's military education includes Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Drill Sergeant School, Combative Level 1, Air Assault School, EO Leaders Course, Special Reaction Team, Domestic Violence Intervention Training, Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Program, Combat Lifesaver Course, Nonlethal Weapons Instructor, Physical Security Course, and the Army Retention Course.

SFC Ferlicka held an Associate's degree in Advanced Gunsmithing.

SFC Ferlicka's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (4), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror ism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4), NATO Ribbon, Meritorious Unit citation, Combat Action Badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Drivers Badge and the Air assault badge. SFC Ferlicka was also a member of the Military Police Commandants 100 and recipient of the Military Police Order of the Marechaussee (Bronze).
