Robert C. Shetler

September 27, 1983 - May 27, 2011
Nickname: "Mike"

Military Branch: Army; Rank: SSG

Summary:

Mike was with the 748th Ordnance Company of the 71st Ordnance Group at Fort Carson.

EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) was his passion, although there were other things he enjoyed.

Mike enjoyed downhill skiing, which he took to like a duck to water. He liked the challenge and the rush from skiing on challenging slopes. (His years doing TaeKwonDo probably helped his skiing.)

After the 2008 Olympics, we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner because the man that earned Bronze in Air Pistol worked there and we wanted to congratulate him.

He brought his Olympic Medal, which we were able to hold. On the way home Mike commented on what he possibly gave up by not continuing in shooting. Then he commented, "Mom, every time that I have defeated a bomber I won a Gold Medal." His pride and passion showed in that statement.

Life Achievements/ Recognitions:

During his senior year in high school, Mike earned his Black Belt in TaeKwonDo.

He attended Jr. Olympics 4 times.

In high school, Mike competed in the small bore three position rifle contes. He set a new state record in Alaska.
